Mount Etna is the highest active volcano in Europe and it lies in Sicily, surrounded by the unique landscape of Mediterranean woods and high-altitude plant communities where many species such as honey buzzards nest in the oak and birch woods, colonies of bee-eaters in the Alcantara river gorges, foxes, wild boars and snakes in oak woodland at the base of the mountain.
The film shows daylight and amazing nocturnal sequences of the latest eruptions, with aerial views shot by drones at 3,500 meters of altitude. There is also a detailed description of the endemic plants and insects living in the high-altitude lava fields and how continuous volcanic eruptions allow the mineral world to be colonized by living beings.
